Care - Financial
The Government provides a residential care subsidy which is dependent on your having had a financial means assessment and the findings of that assessment.
We can provide you with a copy of the Ministry of Health book ‘Long Term Residential Care for Older People - What you need to know’. This book is also available on the Ministry of Health web site.
You need to contact WINZ directly for a subsidy application.

Personal toiletries and effects as well as additional services you may choose to have e.g. hairdresser, pay television charges, telephone line rental, podiatry and physiotherapy (if not referred by GP), etc are paid by you. Additionally, some medications, i.e. non Pharmac prescribed drugs will also be on-charged to you if required.
This will be covered in greater depth in the Resident Admission Agreement which you will get to read and discuss before you are required to sign anything.
Yes, you will need to pay the fees privately up until the time a subsidy is granted. However, Summerset will back pay any entitlement to the subsidy commencement date and a refund will be processed if you are eligible. This will only be backdated for a period of 90 days so you should ensure your application is made before or on admission.
You will be asked on application of subsidy if you would like your superannuation to be paid directly to your care provider (Summerset). If you choose not to do this you will need to pay this portion of your care privately.
We highly recommend that this portion is signed over to Summerset to ensure your fees are paid in full.
